How patients here search
What a Mumbai patient actually types
Almost nobody in this city searches for a dermatologist. They search for a dermatologist somewhere: a locality, a station, the side of the station they live on. Distance in Mumbai is measured in travel time, and a clinic four kilometres away across the railway line can be further in practice than one eight kilometres up the same line.
On a phone, which is where these searches happen, the first thing on screen is a map with three clinics pinned to it. Below the map come the directories, with Practo and JustDial profiles for the same specialty in the same locality, listing after listing. A clinic's own website, when it appears at all, tends to arrive after both.
That is not a reason to give up on search. It is a reason to be clear about which part of it you can realistically win, and in a city this dense, that part is nearly always the map.
